Having recently had my knee replaced for a second time I really do appreciate just how good our NHS is. Not just in the actual operation I had but all of the other help I had afterwards, nurses, care staff and of course those much loved Pyhsio's. Then when I was released to the care of my wife there was continued help with the community physio calling out to see me to help me with my exercise and also to arrange for me to attend my local hospital for group pyhsio joining their knee club. As well as the physio help I had visits from the district nurse to check my wound and to take out the staples that they seem to use now instead of stitches.

 My favourite font of all knowledge about how to treat the disabled and the co called benefit scroungers of Britain, The Daily Mail, has today come up with a story that says Great Britain has more mobility scooters than anywhere else in Europe. The way the run they story is almost as if it is a problem and something to be ashamed of rather than something we should be proud about and celebrate.

 I was looking this morning at a new book about miners and the mining industry in and around Cannock and Hednesford in Staffordshire. Included in the book were pictures of men at the coal face and showing the terrible conditions in which they were forced to work. If you lived in those areas in the last century up to the time of Mrs Thatcher and Mr Scargill's dispute you would have had very little choice but to work in the mines either at the coal face or in jobs allied to the working of the... |

 Recently I saw reports about people with mobility scooters who live in a block of flats on the sea front at Felixstowe complaining about their landlords and the dreaded 'Health & Safety' The residents have apparently been allowed to park their mobility scooters and power chairs inside the block of flats in a stairwell which meant they were out of the way and in a position for the people concerned to be able to get to their individual scooter easily.  Many years ago when I was a lot lot younger back in the 1960's a group called 'Hedgehoppers Anonymous' recorded a song called " Good News Week". The opening line was "Its good news week someone has dropped a bomb somewhere contaminating atmosphere and blackening the sky" now you have to remember this was the time of the 'Ban the Bomb' movement and I was never really certain whether or not it was a protest song or some song writer taking the 'mickey' out of protesters everywhere or... |
