Which riser recliner chair is best for you?

With 25  chairs in our range, it is easy to wonder which riser recliner chair is best for you.

The Hereford riser recliner chair with a lateral backrest is from the Pride Hudson range

At mobilityproducts4u.org we are positive about helping our clients select the riser recliner chair that suits them best. So when you are starting on the journey of choosing your next riser recliner contact us.

If you feel you need to ask about any riser recliner chair then please use my expertise. I don’t all the answers but with well over 50 years of working in the furniture trade, I know some!

Which riser recliner is best for you can depend on a lot of things. How tall are you, how heavy are you. What sort of disabilities do you suffer from? The chairs in our ranges will vary according to size and price and will have different functions.

If you need just a simple single motor riser recliner chair you can choose a chair such as the Ava. Available in just one colourway it is very easy to operate and cost just £375.00.

This chair will stand you up from a sitting position and will also allow you to recline. As a single motor chair when you raise the footrest the backrest will also recline.

At the other end of our range are the chairs from the Pride Hudson range which offer a 4-motor system. These include the recently added Hereford riser recliner chair. Available with two different backrests, the lateral back as shown at the top or the waterfall style shown below.

Hereford riser recliner with a waterfall backrest

The Hereford has dual motors to allow separate use of the back and footrests. It also has motors to adjust the headrest and lumbar support. These give added support in the areas most needed. Another benefit with the Hudson range is the extendable footrest. The Pride Hudson range which includes the Hereford also offers a USB port built into the handset.  This can be so helpful to charge your tablet, phone or laptop as you relax in comfort. Your Kindle can also be charged using the same USB port so you will never be without anything to read.

These chairs offer more and obviously cost more, the Hereford is  £1289.00 excluding VAT. Remember though, with these models we not only deliver but also unpack, assemble and demonstrate.  Once you are happy our specialist engineers will remove all of the packagings and leave you to relax.

At present we have 25 different riser recliner chairs for you to select from but with more to come very shortly.

With my memories from working for Parker Knoll, there is plenty of experience to call on. I was working for them when they introduced the N30 the first recliner chair in the UK.   Please do not ask me how long ago that was though!!

If you have any questions or need any information please contact me, Robert Winchurch. Either by email at office@mobilityproducts4u.org or use the contact form on the website.

If all else fails, try ringing me on 01492 548102 and speak to a real person. I promise I will do my best to guide you to the best riser recliner chair for your needs.

Wheelchair users and Blue badges

Wheelchair users and Blue badges. They go together but there is an increasing amount of fraud and theft involved now. Blue Badge Schemes are unfortunately being abused and used fraudulently.

Blue badges can be a real help. But they are now becoming so valuable that the theft of them is increasing rapidly.

So if you are a Blue Badge user be careful, you do not want it stolen or copied. You should also be very aware that not all disabilities are visible. Do not think because the person in the next car has not got a walking stick that they aren’t disabled. As well as physical disabilities many people who suffer from Autism or learning problems can apply for a Blue Badge.

For all of us though the Blue Badge scheme is a help that should not be abused. The badge is issued to a person with particular needs, not to a car.  This means that it should only be displayed when the person concerned is using it. It isn’t to allow your friend or partner to just pop down to the shops and park more easily using your Blue Badge.

The rise in theft of blue badges is increasing around the whole of the UK. This means that people are able to park where they like without any good reason. If you are unfortunate enough to have yours stolen you need to report it to the Police. You will need a crime number before you can request a replacement. It is always a good idea to take a photocopy of your Blue Badge each time it is renewed.

We all, who use the  Blue Badge Schemes will have a reason for doing so. Certainly, wheelchair users and Blue Badges go together but it is not the only reason to have one.

This Self Propel wheelchair can easily be folded to go into your car. Then once you are parked using the Blue Badge Schemes it is easy to assemble.

Make sure you protect your Blue badge, it is a privilege that should not be abused.

Sleep Apnoea and Swivel Recliner Chairs

I was diagnosed in 2010 with Sleep Apnoea and swivel recliner chairs can be a real help.

The sleep apnoea mask and machine work to keep the airways open and to help you breathe through the night

Back in 2010, when I was first diagnosed, it felt terrible to learn that I had to wear a mask.  This can mean all night, every night but it is surprising how you get used to it. It is possible to take for granted the use of the mask and the machine that pumps air through. However, I recently learnt just how much of a difference it makes to my life.

I developed severe toothache and my face became swollen which stopped me from wearing my mask at night. This carried on for about three weeks until the antibiotics worked and my dentist was able to remove some roots. I became very lethargic during the day and sitting in my swivel recliner chair I was going to sleep. This is not good but does prove just how comfortable my swivel recliner chair is!

Chartwell Swivel recliner chair and matching footstool

Last night I managed to wear my mask again and utilise the machine that goes with it. Today I feel like a different person with loads more energy and I have done more than ever. If only the pain from my arthritic limbs was as easy to control!

At least now my Sleep Apnoea is hopefully, back under control but it is a much under-diagnosed problem.  Anyone who lives with a heavy snorer, should listen, not for the snoring but for the silence. It is that moment that someone stops breathing and then gasps for air is the danger. Those moments and they can be just milliseconds are the danger. The heart lungs and brain can be starved of oxygen and over a period of time, this can be harmful.

Sleep apnoea can have a dramatic effect on people. I used to drop off to sleep when I was driving but did not realise it. After being diagnosed I had to surrender my driving licence. As the song says though, Always look on the bright side of life, now when we go out I can always have a drink!

Sleep Apnoea and swivel recliner chairs are ideal companions. But you should only go to sleep in your swivel recliner because you want to not because you have to.

Adjustable beds in different sizes

Adjustable beds in different sizes are not always available. Here at mobilityproducts4u.org, we have, possibly, the widest selection of different sizes.

A latex foam mattress on an adjustable base
  • 2′ 3″ is the narrowest width we offer
  • 2′ 6″ this size can be ideal when space is at a premium. Such as when someone needs nursing downstairs or in another bedroom.
  • 3′ 0″ is the size that most people consider a normal single bed. It is ideal for those people who are going to be using the bed long term.
  • Pocket springs with memory foam
  • 3′ 6″ Sometimes called a large single it offers that extra space.
  • 4′ 0″ wide beds sometimes called a three-quarter bed. Now known as a compact double bed. It can be used by two people when needed. It has one control and one action.
  • 4′ 6″ width beds are the double beds that most people know.  Called the standard double it gives even more room.
  • 5′ 0″ wide (King size) adjustable beds can either be supplied with one or two actions. With one action the whole of the mattress will be raised or lowered. Whilst if two people want to be together but have their own controls you need two actions. This is done by linking two 2′ 6″ beds together. This ensures that both users can decide where they want to position themselves.
  • 6′ 0″ wide adjustable beds are known here in the UK as Super King Size. Though sometimes the American name of Queen size is also used. Normally made up of two 3′ 0″ wide beds linked together.

First of all, select the size that you need. Then think about the mattress. Pocket springs, memory foam, latex foam or perhaps a combination of those. After being in the trade since 1959 I have plenty of information and advice I can give you.  So when you need to know more just call me Robert Winchurch

on 01492 548192 or by email at office@mobilityproducts4u.org. I will offer the best advice and information for your needs,

adjustable-bed
When you order an adjustable bed from us everything is done for you (oh except putting the bedclothes on!)

Every year the National Bed Federation use March top celebrate National bed Month and so do I at mobilityproducts4u.org.

This year I have to celebrate my 75th birthday, reduced the prices of our adjustable beds by 10%.  This coincides with National bed month so all you have to do is enter the code ‘MarchBeds’. Enter that when you go to the shopping cart and the system will do the rest. A lot of people are eligible to purchase adjustable beds VAT exempt. That can mean another 20% saving!

Remember as well that when mobilityproducts4u.org supplies your new bed it is assembled for you. No problems about which room it should be in, our team take care of that. They will unpack and put it together then show you how it works. Once you are happy they will remove all the packagings and all you have to do is put the bedclothes on!

We supply all sizes from 2′ 3″ wide up to 5′ 0″ wide. If you want you can have even wider by connecting two sets together.  Should you require a 6′ 0″ width you can link two 3′ 0″ sets side by side. It is possible to have the actions working together or independently of each other. So if you want to sit up together you can.

Our adjustable beds can be supplied on deep bases which are on castors. These models can for a slight extra cost have drawers fitted as well.

Single bed drawer options

double adjustable bed drawer options

Alternatively, you can select a shallow base on legs. This model is ideal if the user needs in bed nursing as it allows the carer to get closer.

A single adjustable bed on legs

All of the adjustable beds are available with matching headboards. Delivery and home assembly are normally completed in 10 to 14 working days.

National Bed Month, time to order your adjustable bed?

adjustable bed
Do you want a double or single adjustable bed?

Adjustable beds are for life, not just March! However, March every year is promoted by the NBF (the National Bed Federation) as National Bed Month.

Normally I try to avoid price promotions and sell all the time at sensible and competitive prices.  This year though I have decided that, just for new orders in March, to offer a discount.

If you order from the range on offer on the website, you just need to add MARCHBEDS into the ‘discount codes’ box on the left of the shopping cart.

When you press the Apply button the system will, almost by magic, reduce the price to you. Make sure you remember to do so before you check out!

With adjustable beds that go in size from 2′ 3″ right through to 4′ 6″ wide you will find one just for you. Not only that but you can by combining sets together have 5’0″ or 6’0″widths as well.

Obviously, if you decide on a 5’0″ or 6’0″ set it will in normal circumstances be for two people. If this is the case then your new adjustable bed will be delivered and assembled with individual actions and mattresses. Which will mean that you can operate either side independently of each other.

The ranges I offer can be either on a deep base on castors or on a shallow base on legs. There are benefits to both styles, if you select a deep base it will have castors as standard. As well you will be able to have drawers to give you extra storage if required.

A deep base adjustable bed with drawers

The shallow base is on legs, normally 8″, but shorter ones are available. The shallow style on legs is easier if the user needs in bed nursing as you can get closer.  If you need a lower bed then the legged version makes that easier to achieve. You can reduce the height of the legs to either 6″ or 4″, which will reduce the overall height.

A single adjustable bed on legs

Delivery and home assembly are included in my price even with the MARCHBEDS discount. The specialist team will assemble the bed in the room you require it in. Once done they will give you a quick demonstration of all its functions. Then they remove all the packagings leaving you just to add the bedclothes!

If you need a new adjustable bed then there has never been a better time to order from me.

Swivel chairs in Narrow Boats

Our swivel recliner chairs are ideal for narrow boats and come complete with matching stools

Swivel recliner chairs are ideal for narrow boats. This time of year is not probably the best to be hiring a narrow boat for a holiday. Those owners of narrow boats though know now is the time for the hard work such as refits, redecorating and refurbishing.

Once this starts we at mobilityproducts4u.org can really be helpful. With over thirty different models to select from as well as four massage recliners, there is bound to be one for your boat.

the Bergen from the Serene range is ideal for narrow boats and comes with a choice of colours

Different colours are available that will suit any decor and of course different fabrics. Select from leather, faux leather, faux suede or fabric covers. A pair of matching chairs from our range will enhance your living quarters and give you great comfort.

With models from GFA, Serene and Julian Bowen you will be surprised just how much choice there is.

From GFA the Marseille in a soft cloth fabric is easy to assemble

The beauty of our models is that they all come ready for you to assemble. We all know how difficult access can be on a narrow boat and so these chairs mean on less problem. Simply unpack your chair on the deck and then take it part by part inside. Once there you can assemble the chair and matching stool easily, they all come with an Allen key. That is all you need to complete the job.

The Siena is not only the least expensive chair in our range it is also extremely comfortable

After that, it is so easy to sit back and relax whilst someone else does the driving. Though you might have to help when you get to any of the locks!

Just because narrow boats are narrow, there is no need to be uncomfortable. With swivel recliner chairs and footstools ranging from £169 to around £600, it doesn’t need to be expensive.

If you need more information or help then please contact me Robert Winchurch at office@mobilityproducts4u.org or call me on 01492 548102. I will be delighted to help and advise in any way I can.

Remember our prices include VAT and delivery all you need to do is order in time for the next season.

Having to use a wheelchair doesn’t mean you are stupid!

It always surprises me how people who use a wheelchair are, almost, deemed to be stupid.

With so many wheelchairs to choose from, there will be one to suit your requirements. But you do not lose your intelligence just because you are sat in one

Fortunately, at present, I am not having to use a wheelchair myself. I do have a self-propel one of my own though for when it gets bad. Not quite as snazzy as the one shown here!

It amazes me though when I do use it how I am treated differently! Other wheelchair users will confirm that you seem to disappear and people talk over the top of you. Either that or they look down at you and talk at you as if you are stupid!

It is so frustrating, you haven’t disappeared or had your brain removed, you are just using a wheelchair. I suppose in many cases it is because others feel awkward at seeing someone below them.

I don’t mean below as in status but in position, it is difficult to talk when you cannot make eye contact.

So if you meet a friend or an acquaintance in a wheelchair,  remember they cannot stand up easily!  Do the decent thing and bend or stoop down to make sure you can make eye contact. Then you can talk to them or with them but not over them or about them as if they aren’t there.

None of us ever want to be in a wheelchair, but like for me, occasionally it is necessary. Other people have to use them all of the time and that is even more frustrating.

You probably will not ever hear those wheelchair users complain about their problems and you will not notice them seething.  They will though just seeth inwardly if you treat them (and me) as if they are stupid.

Treat wheelchair users as normal people and they will respect you for it. Treat them as if they don’t exist or as if they are stupid and you will upset them.

Sleep Apnoea and adjustable beds

Let the action of an adjustable bed help with your sleep apnoea or other breathing difficulties

Having suffered from sleep apnoea myself for many years, I know how helpful an adjustable bed can be.

I was diagnosed in 2010 but all of those people who had the joy of listening to me snoring would tell you I suffered for a lot longer.

My trouble though is not really the snoring, loud though it is!  It is the moments I stop snoring and breathing and then suddenly gasp for my breath. This can be so strong that the actual bed can shake from the force of my gasping.

Now with the aid of an adjustable bed and my mask, I sleep a lot better and snore less!

The sleep apnoea mask and machine work to keep the airways open and to help you breathe through the night

It is actually more comfortable than it looks! Problem is that if you do not get a perfect seal the air escaping can make lots of loud noises.

Raising the head end of an adjustable bed can help so much. Not just with sleep apnoea but with other problems such as acid reflux, or heart problems.

At the other end of the bed if you raise your ankles and knees you will benefit from improved blood circulation.

In the times before I was diagnosed my snoring has been known to disturb other people.

Staying in hotels in those days could be embarrassing, to say the least! Having people bang on your door during the night and beg you to be quiet is not funny! Well, it can be but perhaps not for them.

One time when I was visiting a bedding company in Somerset I stayed in a hotel near to the factory. It was an old hotel with thick walls but that may have made it worse.

The next morning at breakfast I heard a man saying to his friend “Did you hear that snoring last night”?  His room was 3 rooms away from me!

Seriously though, if you are a heavy snorer you should get checked out for sleep apnoea. Once you have done that invest in an adjustable bed and improve your night’s sleep. This, in turn, will improve your days!

Remember though adjustable beds are not just for ‘old people’ (like me) but can be so very useful to all age groups.

If you need any information about adjustable beds or sleep apnoea please feel free to contact me. You can get in touch at www.mobilityproducts4u.org or by phoning 01492 548102.
