Hello again, and thank you for taking the time to visit. With the warmer months now here, I thought it might be useful to share some advice on staying cool and comfortable, especially if you live with mobility challenges or rely on an adjustable bed.
Over the years, I’ve spoken with many people who find summer can bring its own difficulties. Warmer weather may be welcome in some ways, but it can also lead to poor sleep, overheating, and increased swelling in the legs and feet. As someone who has dealt with arthritis for many years, I can absolutely relate. A hot, restless night helps no one.
Here are a few things I’ve learned, both from personal experience and from helping customers every day.
Let Your Adjustable Bed Do the Hard Work
An adjustable bed is a real asset in summer. If you tend to experience swelling in the lower limbs, raising your legs slightly can ease pressure and improve circulation. It can make a surprising difference in how you feel the next morning.
Some of our customers also find that sleeping with their upper body slightly raised helps with breathing and allows the air to circulate a little more freely around the chest and neck. It’s worth experimenting with your position until you find one that brings real comfort.
If you’re just starting to look into the options, we have a wide range of adjustable beds to suit different room sizes and needs.
Choose Bedding That Breathes
This is something people often overlook. In warmer months, the materials on your bed can either trap heat or help you stay cool. I always recommend natural fibres like cotton or bamboo. They allow air to move through and draw moisture away from the skin.
It’s also important to remember that most adjustable beds are a little longer than standard beds, usually around 6 feet 6 inches. That means standard sheets may not always fit properly. Look for fitted sheets with some stretch and deep corners so they stay put when the bed moves.
Simple Ways to Keep the Room Cool
You don’t need to invest in fancy cooling systems to stay comfortable. A few thoughtful changes can go a long way:
-
Close curtains or blinds during the day to block out the heat
-
Open windows in the early morning and later in the evening
-
Position a fan where it will circulate air without creating a direct draught
-
Move furniture if needed to improve airflow around the bed
We’ve had many customers tell us these small steps have helped them sleep more peacefully in the heat.
A Few Extra Tips for Daily Comfort
When the temperature rises, it’s important to keep hydrated. A bottle of water within easy reach can make all the difference. If grip is an issue, consider a bottle with a handle or straw.
Loose clothing, particularly natural fabrics, will feel cooler on the skin. If you spend extended periods in bed, look for pyjamas or nightdresses that allow freedom of movement and help the body breathe.
If you’re expecting a delivery from us during the summer, our team will take extra care to ensure your setup is done quickly and safely, with minimal disruption. We’ll also follow up to check that you’re happy and everything is working as it should.
In Closing
The warmer months can be enjoyable, but they also bring added considerations for anyone managing mobility issues or spending more time in bed. The right position, the right materials and a few small adjustments can help you stay cool, well rested and more comfortable overall.
As always, if you have any questions at all, just get in touch. I’m here to offer honest, friendly advice and make sure you get what’s best for you. No pressure, just proper service.
With kind regards,
Robert Winchurch
