Maybe it’s Time to Change your Mattress!
It is May already and we are really into Spring and talking of spring or spring or foam how is your mattress? Maybe it’s time to change your mattress! The National Bed Federation (NBF) represents not only the best bed manufacturers but also recognises Premier Retail Champions. We here at mobilityproducts4u are proud to be in that category.

Why choose May to think maybe it’s time to change your mattress? Well, it is the time of year when people start their spring cleaning and perhaps a good time to take a look at their beds! It isn’t though, always necessary to change a complete bed many times it is just the mattress that needs attention (or replacing). The NBF suggest that we change our mattresses every 8 to 10 years but that is for a normal bed. When you think about adjustable beds it is sensible to assume that the mattresses on them might take more wear depending on the user’s circumstances.
Spring Clean your Bed
While we all get the idea of spring cleaning rarely do we think about including our beds in that. How about checking under the mattress, make sure that the top of your base is not only still in good condition but also clean and dust free. It only takes a few minutes to run a vacuum cleaner over it. At the same time check that it is still firm and supporting your mattress properly. That dip in your mattress may be caused by a lack of support from the base!
With Adjustable Beds, you will normally have a slated base. These must be still working properly and are all in place. A broken slat can not only affect the mattress it could also cause problems with the working of the action.
Why Should You Change an Adjustable Bed Mattress More Often?
For most beds, you can calculate the time a person spends in it at around 8 hours. Depending on personal circumstances a person with a long-term illness or disability can spend longer in their adjustable bed. Indeed some of my clients are in the very unfortunate position of not getting out of their bed at all. This means of course, that these beds in these circumstances will get 3 times as much use than a normal bed. Even if it is only 50% more use then it becomes obvious that however good your adjustable bed mattress is it cannot last as long! Maybe it’s time to change your mattress.
As you can imagine adjustable bed mattresses do just what they say! They adjust not only to the user but also to the movement of the adjustable frame so they get double the movement!
What Type of Mattress is Best?
Such a good question but there is no easy answer, it depends on personal choice in many ways but let me give you an idea of what is available. Then if you want more information you can either check out the website. Or contact me Robert Winchurch on my phone number 01492 548102. I will do my very best to advise you as to which mattress or type of mattress would be best for your requirements.
Pocket Springs. Pocket springs are individual springs that are not connected and sit either in little calico bags or are encased in some form of foam. These little beauties then move with the various parts of your body to give the right support for any particular area. Such as your hips or your shoulders. They will move with you as you do. Pocket springs are even better for beds which are being used by two partners. Such as a double or a king-size bed with one mattress. Using a pocket-sprung mattress with individual springs means that one partner’s movements will not disturb the other. The springs supporting the moving person will move with them. But will not transfer that movement to the other partner.

Please note. Never use what is known as a Baynell-type spring unit, which is one made with a continuous wire and also has an edge wire around the mattress on an Adjustable bed! The main problem in using one of these mattresses is that the edge wire and the spring unit will bend. Once this type of mattress has bent it will not go back into its original shape.
Foam Mattresses. There are several types of foam available to use on adjustable beds all of them are ideal for that purpose. They will move with the user’s body and also follow the action of the bed. Some of the foam mattresses available will be; memory foam; latex foam and reflex foam.
