Flexyfoot gives added safety

Having used a Flexyfoot ferrule on a previous walking stick this year I got my own full Flexyfoot walking stick.

This picture shows how the Flexyfoot ferrule will move to support you across different terrains. It is so much better than standard ferrules. Wherever you go if you need to use a walking stick then you need to make sure it’s a Flexyfoot!

Now I am using the proper Flexyfoot walking stick I feel so much safer. I know that the shock-absorbing effect provided by the bellows means that there is no jarring on my arms and particularly on my elbow. The tread on the base of the Ferrule means that there is far less chance of my walking stick slipping as you can have happened with a normal ferrule.

I had to start using a walking stick in 2010 after having my left knee replaced. Unfortunately, the operation wasn’t a total success and left me in pain and with a limp. Feeling unsteady after stopping using the crutches after recovery from the operation I started to use a walking stick. My original stick had a standard ferrule and to be fair I thought nothing about different ferrules, that was until I attended a trade exhibition in 2012. Amongst the companies there was Flexyfoot and a member of the team on the stand showed the Flexyfoot ferrule. I replaced the original ferrule and suddenly found just how much safer I felt with Flexyfoot and I have been a user ever since!

The Flexyfoot Ferrule can easily replace your existing ferrule and give you added stability and comfort. Don’t be left with a conventional ferrule with all the problems that can give you, be active with all the benefits a Flexyfoot Ferrule can give you.

How to use a walking stick?

A Flexyfoot Walking Stick can help a person if they are recovering from an injury, not confident when walking unaided or suffering from a mobilityrelated condition.
A walking stick should always be held in the hand on the opposite side of the affected leg. Move the walking stick and step forward with your bad leg – it is important to move the stick and the affected leg forward together. Then move the stronger leg through.
Your walking stick should have moved approximately the distance of an average step.

How to measure for a walking stick?

It is incredibly important to make sure your walking stick is the correct height for use. A walking stick that is too short or too tall will not support the user properly and could even lead to health complications in the future.

To select the right height, stand up straight with your arms by your side and put your shoes on. Place the bottom of the walking stick on the ground and slightly bend your elbow (about 20 degrees). The handle of the walking stick should reach the crease on the underside of your wrist.

All Flexyfoot walking sticks are quick and easy to adjust ensuring you can alter the stick to the perfect height to suit your individual needs.

How to replace a ferrule?

Replacing a Flexyfoot ferrule is a quick and simple process.

First, you will need to measure the diameter of your walking stick or crutch to ensure you have the correct size Flexyfoot.
Next, reduce the height of your walking aid by 50mm (if the walking aid is not adjustable then you may have to cut it down to size).

Now, separate the foot from the collar by pulling the foot away from the collar until it clicks – then unscrew.

Insert the end of the walking stick or crutch into the collar and push it hard.

Once securely in place, screw the foot into the collar until it rotates freely and then push the foot until it clicks into place.

As winter approaches it is a good idea to consider adding a Flexyfoot Ice boot to your ferrule for extra safety.

Ideal for the winter months, the Flexyfoot Ice Boot has been specially designed for use with the Flexyfoot ferrules. It is invaluable in icy conditions. The Ice Boot is simple to fit over the ferrule foot and provides an unwavering grip. This gives improved user confidence when walking on icy paths. The additional grip and traction are achieved thanks to the circular array of stainless steel teeth Which are moulded into the underside, which digs into the ice and snow. For safety, a cover for the boot fits snugly over the teeth to shroud them when it is not in use protecting floors and carpets.

If you need more support than a Flexyfoot Walking Stick can give you then remember we also have a range of Flexyfoot crutches that also have the benefits of the Flexyfoot Ferrule.
